Documentary film and nonfiction shorts

A Lawyer Walks into a Bar is a documentary about the influence of the legal profession and its practitioners on American culture, while following six characters as they do whatever it takes to become lawyers themselves. It got selected for six film festivals, including South by Southwest.

As a camerawoman I followed several of the characters, although only one made it into the final cut. I stuck by her including into a karaoke bar and a birthday party. All of her friends sang Happy Birthday to her and, naturally, I got it on video. The filmmakers almost got sued because they used the song "Happy Birthday" in the movie without a license.

It's a very well done documentary and a fascinating slice of American life. I'm glad I'll never have to take the Bar exam.
